How to Make a Spicy Guava Margarita

A Step-by-Step Guide to Crafting the Ultimate Serve.

A spicy guava margarita cocktail served over ice in a large rocks glass with a cinnamon sugar rim and a skewered lime wheel garnish

A bold, tropical twist on the classic Margarita that brings together the warm, honey-like sweetness of pink guava and the slow-building heat of fresh red chilli. Reposado tequila adds a smooth, lightly oaked depth that a blanco can't quite match, while Cointreau and fresh lime keep the citrus backbone sharp. Guava purée and guava juice double down on that tropical character, creating a serve that's rich and beautifully layered. Sweet, spiced, and irresistible, this serve immediately becomes the most talked-about drink of the evening.

Base Spirit: Tequila Reposado

Flavour Profile: Tropical, spiced, rich

Glassware: Rocks Glass (served over ice)

Occasion: Garden Parties, Engagement Celebrations, Birthday Parties

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Reposado Tequila

  • 15ml Cointreau

  • 20ml Fresh Lime Juice

  • 10ml Agave Syrup

  • 1–2 Slices Fresh Red Chilli

  • 20ml Pink Guava Purée

  • 20ml Guava Juice

  • Cinammon Sugar (for the rim, optional)

  • Lime Wheel & Red Chilli Slice (garnish)

How to make:

  1. If salting the rim, run a lime wedge around the edge of a rocks glass and dip into cinammon sugar before adding ice.

  2. Muddle the fresh red chilli gently in the base of a cocktail shaker to release its heat.

  3. Add the Reposado tequila, Cointreau, fresh lime juice, agave syrup, pink guava purée, and guava juice.

  4. Fill the shaker with ice and shake hard for 10–15 seconds until well chilled.

  5. Fill the prepared rocks glass with fresh ice.

  6. Strain the cocktail into the glass.

  7. Garnish with a skewered lime wheel.

  8. Serve immediately.

Story behind the Serve

Guava has been a staple of Latin American cuisine and culture for centuries, sweet, fragrant, and unmistakably tropical, it's a natural partner for tequila in a way few other fruits are. This serve takes the well-established Margarita format and builds something altogether more indulgent around it, using both pink guava purée and guava juice to layer the flavour properly rather than relying on a token splash. The red chilli addition places this firmly within the ‘swicy cocktail’movement, the growing trend for sweet and spicy flavour combinations that has dominated cocktail menus across the UK throughout 2025 and into 2026.
