How to Make a Blueberry Basil Gin Smash Cocktail

A Step-by-Step Guide to Crafting the Ultimate Serve.

A blueberry basil gin smash cocktail served in a highball glass garnished with fresh blueberries and fresh basil

A fresh, fruit-forward smash that's become a genuine crowd pleaser on our menu. The lavender and citrus notes of a good dry gin pair deliciously with tart, muddled blueberries, while a top of soda water keeps things light and effortlessly drinkable. Fresh basil adds a peppery, herbaceous lift that ties the whole serve together, bringing a garden-fresh quality you don't often find in a cocktail. Equally suited to a sunny garden party or a relaxed evening on the terrace, this is the kind of drink that wins over guests who think they "don't really like gin."

Story behind the Serve

The Smash is one of the oldest cocktail formats in the book, a simple, refreshing build of spirit, sugar, fresh fruit, and ice that dates back to the mid-1800s. Its enduring appeal lies in its flexibility: built around whatever fruit and herbs are freshest at the time. This version leans on the natural pairing of gin's botanical character with the tartness of blueberries, finished with fresh basil for a peppery, aromatic edge. Simple, seasonal, and consistently one of the most popular serves we pour at spring and summer private events.
