How to Make a Blackberry Lemonade Cocktail: Craft Recipe & Expert Tips

A Step-by-Step Guide to Crafting the Ultimate Serve.

A Blackberry Lemonade cocktail served in a highball glass garnished with skewered blackberries and a sprig of mint

Rich, refreshing, and built for any occasion, the Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade takes the clean base of vodka and pairs it with ripe muddled blackberries, sharp lemon juice, and a sparkling soda finish that lifts the whole serve into something beautifully balanced. The blackberries do more than add colour here — they deepen the vodka’s clean edge and bring a tart, jammy sweetness that simple syrup alone couldn't achieve. This is a highball that works just as well at a summer garden party as it does at a cosy autumn gathering. A refreshing vodka cocktail for every season.

Base Spirit: Vodka

Flavour Profile: Rich, Fruity, Tart, Refreshing

Glassware: Highball Glass

Occasion: Weddings, Garden Parties, Birthday Celebrations, Dinner Parties, Casual Gatherings

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Vodka

  • 8–10 Fresh Blackberries

  • 15ml Simple Syrup

  • 25ml Fresh Lemon Juice

  • Soda Water (to top)

  • Fresh Mint Sprig & Blackberries (garnish)

How to make:

  1. Pre-chill a highball glass

  2. Add the fresh blackberries and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker.

  3. Muddle well until the blackberries are fully broken down and their juices released.

  4. Add the vodka and fresh lemon juice, then fill the shaker with ice.

  5. Shake hard for 10–15 seconds until well chilled.

  6. Fine strain into a highball glass filled with fresh ice — double straining here removes the blackberry seeds for a cleaner finish.

  7. Top with soda water and give one gentle stir.

  8. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig and a few whole blackberries.

  9. Serve immediately.

Story behind the Serve

The Blackberry Lemonade is one of those serves that sits at the intersection of classic and approachable, familiar enough to feel comfortable, interesting enough to feel considered. Blackberries have a natural affinity with vodka and here that pairing is given a fresh, citrusy update - the lemon juice sharpening the edges, the soda water adding the kind of effervescence that makes a drink feel genuinely refreshing rather than just sweet. A cocktail that earns its place on the menu in any season.
